A stopgap between NHL stints. I didn't want to leave the league — the second lockout made that decision for me — and someone who had left the NHL earlier knew I would be looking, so he put my name in.
The work could have been great. Advisers going out to see clients with a tablet was a genuinely good idea in 2013. But the tablets were Surfaces: big corporate suits bought big corporate Microsoft tablets, as if that were what we wanted to build for, or what our customers wanted to see in the hands of their advisers. We were building Windows web applications, on Windows tablets, for IE8.
It is the job that decided me against ever working for a massive corporation again.
Developed reporting systems for high-net-worth clients, including components that let advisers sit with a client and work directly through their reports, research and account information on a tablet or laptop
Modernized and redesigned the project structure for better decoupling of components, better scalability and easier maintenance
Worked with the team developing a REST API, standardizing on a custom protocol that fit the UI framework
